Rockefeller Rothko
My goal is to demonstrate how provenance impacts art value and how the owner of an artwork becomes a part of the value-making process. The owner becomes "part of a work of art." The White Center is currently known as The Rockefeller Rothko.
I chose David Rockefeller and The White Center because, prior to my research,
I had no idea how much Rothko's works were worth and was curious by how the
painting's value rose after Rockefeller purchased it. Throughout my studies,
I gained an appreciation for Rothko's work as a result of its cultural influences
and the information required to interpret his paintings.
